Stage 6From Dowdeswell the trail enters Lineover Wood, a semi-natural broadleaved woodland noted for large-leaved lime and mature beech. The path climbs around Wistley Plantation before crossing open farmland and descending toward Seven Springs, often cited as one of the reputed sources of the River Thames.
A further climb brings the route onto Charlton Kings Common, where the landscape opens with views across Cheltenham and the Severn Vale. The stage continues along the escarpment to Leckhampton Hill and the Devil's Chimney, a limestone pillar on the scarp edge above the town. This is a longer section than several of the preceding stages, with a sustained climb out of Dowdeswell followed by repeated smaller ascents and descents.
