Stage 15The last leg drops from Cold Ashton into the secluded valley at Lower Hamswell, then climbs steadily to the high ground of Lansdown, the site of a battle fought in 1643 during the English Civil War. Near Lansdown Golf Club the route passes a circle of sculptures by David Michael Mores. The path continues across the plateau past Little Down hill fort and alongside Bath Racecourse.
At Prospect Stile the first clear view of Bath opens to the south. The trail then passes through Weston before following city parks and residential streets toward the centre, where architecture becomes progressively more formal as the route approaches Bath Abbey. A carved stone disc set into the pavement outside the west doors of the Abbey marks the official southern terminus of the 102-mile (164 km) National Trail from Chipping Campden.
