Tormarton to Cold Ashton

From Tormarton the route heads south across open arable farmland before following the outer wall of Dyrham Park. The William and Mary house stands within an ancient deer park whose landscape was later shaped by William Blathwayt and his successors. The National Trail follows the perimeter of the estate, allowing views of the parkland without a lengthy detour from the main line.

From Dyrham village the path climbs through Dyrham Woods and continues over farmland to Cold Ashton, a village on the edge of the Cotswolds. The dramatic escarpment walking of the northern and central sections is largely behind walkers by this point, replaced by open fields, quiet lanes, and wooded valleys. Cold Ashton serves as the usual base for the final stage into Bath.
