Contractors have been improving surface and drainage on a waterlogged section of the Cotswold Way in Witcombe Woods near Birdlip. Earlier in 2024, similar work was completed where the trail passes through Standish Woods by Haresfield Beacon.
The aim is to keep these stretches more usable through wet seasons, when clay and leaf litter can turn paths into soft, slippery going. Expect temporary works traffic or short local adjustments while crews are on site - follow any signed advice and give space to machinery.
Carry sturdy footwear and check our stages and maps pages before you set out, especially after heavy rain.
