South of Cleeve Hill, you stay on the highest stretch of the whole National Trail with far-reaching views over Cheltenham and the Severn plain. The route crosses Bill Smylie's butterfly reserve and quiet lanes before descending through Dowdeswell Wood to the reservoir area, known for rare white-clawed crayfish habitat.
