The route follows water out of Wotton-under-Edge, climbs to the escarpment near Newark Park, then drops by a sunken track toward Alderley. It continues through a quiet valley where medieval ridge-and-furrow patterns remain visible, follows a millstream near Lower Kilcott, and climbs gently to the Somerset Monument before Hawkesbury Upton.
